MFA Fashion Parsons graduate and fashion designer Lucia Cuba, for her senior collection, created a fashion collection inspired by the victims and used to raise awareness of forced sterilization in Peru. Framed as "actions," each collection presentation showcased before a New York based audience, many of whom were probably not knowledgeable of the issue, a series of high end womenswear garments embroidered with the names of women who were victim to this forced sterilization, using the material medium of thread, fabric, garment construction and fashion aesthetics to highlight an important social justice infringement. This speaks to the use of activism as a medium to raise awareness and galvanize awareness around a critical social issue.
