For some, October 14, 1968, was a clarion call to the future.

Compton's Cafeteria, 24 hour diner in S.F.'s Tenderloin was a hang out spot for trans women, drag queens, and sex workers. It was a place for the community to meet up for an expensive meal, a place to chit chat, and let each other know they made it through the night alive. They were often harassed by police and arrested for female impersonation. Finally one night in August the Compton's costumers weren't going to take it anymore.
Trickery and disguise, usually followed by revealing the truth, are often tactics used by liberal activism, like the Yes Men for example. When used by the right, however, it can have different implications. Pretending to be a CEO or billionaire in order to expose corporate greed and corruption is clearly different then pretending to be a minority. The use of disguise can manipulate and shed light on hierarchies of power.
In a case of voter fraud, an investigation revealed that the party in power had won fifty votes from the residents of a single apartment.
A group of activists reproduced the apartment in a downtown square and invited 50 people inside.
The action took just one part of the case, literally brought it into three dimensions, and showed the absurdity that this could ever be legitimate.
