For the People Artists Collective is a collaborative network of radical artists of color in Chicago.

‪#‎ForThePeopleFriday‬: Each Friday, we will be sharing artwork by one of our members. Today, we are featuring Leila Abdelrazaq, a Chicago-based Palestinian artist, whose debut graphic novel, Baddawi, was shortlisted for the Palestine Book Awards. She is also the creator of a number of short zines and mini comics. Her creative work primarily explores issues related to diaspora, refugees, history, memory, and borders.
The two illustrations we are featuring today are part of Leila's series, "Smuggling Books Across the Border," which documents experiences she had while in Palestine as a participant in the Palestine Festival of Literature in May of last year. The series was compiled in a zine, and you can order it online (and view Leila's other work) at her website, lalaleila.com.
