Having witnessed the horrors of atomic bombings as a child and later, watching her beloved Japan become a leader in nuclear-energy, and seeing the effects of depleted uranium, Mayumi had to pursue a global cause greater than her art or feminism.

It took 17 high schoolers, eight mentors from Kansas City and a 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia to create the first ever social media powered car. The concept was to bring MINDDRIVE to life with tweets, posts, shares and likes which were monitored by an Arduino device. This open-source, single-board microcontroller triggered the vehicle’s motor based on the number of tweets and posts about the project.

"As of October 2009, Retznei boasts a new centre. In the middle of the square the black contours of a concrete surface stand out, reminiscent of the shape of a pond. If you step on the Platform, you notice that the ground gives slightly and that it sways. Invisibly but noticeably, water reveals itself as a key component of this art work by Michael Kienzer. The water carries the Platform and us, while we are walking or standing on it.
