Fashion designer and social scientist, Lucia Cuba, has taken up the task of using fashion as a vehicle to bring attention and awareness around Articulo 6, an article in the Peruvian constitution that declared a law of forced sterilization of women in the country. Cuba has taken the testimonies of the victims of this article and integrated them into the very fabric of her designs. Articulated as actions, Cuba considered each public presentation of her fashion collection to be an activist action, in that it brings awareness to the issue. Her first action was a public release of a Look Book video that showcased the collection on a single model, stylized to portray the invisibility of the women, the oppression of the sterilization, with the landscape of Peru in the background.
