NAME OF PROJECT: ‘CHILDREN SHOULD BE SEEN AND HEARD’

TEAM MEMBERS: Caroline, Yasir, Sile, Audrey & Mary

GLOBAL CHALLENGE: To give children a voice and create empathy
among adults for children

WHAT WE DID: We created a space within which adults and
children as equals had an opportunity to creatively
express themselves and be heard. What they had
to say was captured in open mouths on faces
which we attached to a map of the world (they
were having their say and taking their place in the
world). On 'ears', people (mostly adults) shared the
adult who heard them as a child, and how that felt.
HOW DID WE
CONNECT WITH
PUBLIC’S EMPATHY: The children were provided with an opportunity to
express themselves and hear that we believed they
deserved to be heard and the adults had an
opportunity to be ‘as a child’, to play, express
themselves, and to remember an adult from their
childhood who heard them, and how that felt.
Through this experience, we created empathy.

WHAT DID YOU
ACHIEVE: We created a fun space with a powerful message
and we engaged many of the public of all ages in
experiencing creativity and empathy. It was
evident that people resonated with our message by
the level of participation and the written messages
they provided.
