Periplus Favorite 

PERIPLUS is a transoceanic route through community arts (music, performing arts and interdisciplinary projects) across five continents. It aims to disseminate knowledge and enhance the visibility of education, social and artistic initiatives by critically analysing the synergies which arise from connections in these three fields.

The research will be expanded upon and disseminated in a variety of ways: the synergy created by the interaction of arts, education and the social will be explored through a PhD; a website will collect observations and analysis to demonstrate best practice in the community arts sector globally; a series of publications in specialist journals and a book will contribute to the academic literature in this field and a collaborative documentary film made up of independent short films by local visual artists will reflect the artists’ own personal viewpoints on these initiatives. An International Network of universities engaged in work around Community Cultural Development will also be created with a view to developing Research and Development agency in the future.
