In Seoul, thousands of protestors who represent organized labor marched in Seoul on Saturday denouncing the governments attempt to force thousands of striking truckers back to work after they all walked out over a dispute in the price of freight. Most of the marchers were members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, accused current President Yoon Suk Yeol's conservative government of labor oppression and ignoring the harsh work conditions and financial struggles the truckers were going through; especially due to the recent rising fuel costs. The government issues an order for 2,500 cement truck drivers to return back to work stating that their strike is rattling the national economy. However, the union vowed to continue their strike. The protestors called for the government to make the permanent minimum freight rate system that was originally supposed to expire at the end of 2022. While the fares were being applied to shipping containers and cement, the protestors also called for the benefits to be applied to other cargo such as oil and chemical tankers, steel and automobile carriers, and package delivery truckers. This was the first time the South Korean government exercised its controversial powers since 2004 in order to force the truckers back to their jobs and failure to comply would be punishable to up to three years in prison or a maximum fine of around 22 thousand dollars.
