A group of students at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois handed out flyers and granola bars to bring awareness to the school’s dining, which is notorious for poor hours and limited options for vegan students. The dining halls around campus close at 8 p.m., which ignores the schedules of many college students. The poor options for vegan students also leaves many with no options for a proper main course for their meal. The protesting students used an alteration of the school’s “Protect the Pack” slogan, altering it to read as “Feed the Pack” in order to highlight the campus-wide lack of food after 8 p.m.

Timeframe For change

This project seems to be part of a campaign with a clear short-term goal. Short-term goals tend to be things like: create or repeal a law; get a President impeached; make the city administration repair a sidewalk. A campaign with a short-term goal needs a clear theory of change, complete with targets that can be cajoled or pressured into effecting the goal.
The short-term goal of the project is to bring more realization to the subpar food hours and choices that are currently on campus.​

This activism project allowed us to recognize an important issue on campus and creatively bring attention to it.​
