Location:

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

An artist in Brazil, who remains anonymous, placed red blindfolds on the eyes of statues across the city of Rio de Janeiro to protest the country's political crisis. According to the BBC, the artist explained that "The idea is to blindfold the eyes of those who can no longer do anything for the country and to avoid them helplessly witnessing the economic and political crisis in the country, unable to do anything." The artist wanted to show that "protest is not just about street demonstrations" (BBC, March 13, 2016).
