Despite the pushes to motivate more young girls into STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields, women are still very underrepresented in almost every scientific field. Part of this motivation is because a lot of young girls would rather do something else.

But an association called Science Cheerleaders, made up of current and former NFL and NBA cheerleaders who also happen to hold advanced science degrees and scientifically-oriented jobs, are trying to show young girls otherwise.

This group hold various events, utilizing cheerleading routines to try to encourage their young women to pursue advanced science degrees as they have, especially if they wish to do more than just science. In fact, many of these members have been outspoken about how both aspects of their lives - cheering and science - have complemented each other, allowing them to put their work in both fields into a greater context.
