On 7th December 2009, “Picha Mtaani” was launched at a colorful ceremony in Nairobi. “Picha Mtaani” in partnership with UNDP Kenya, was an initiative that seeks to create a platform for peace building, national healing and cohesion through street picture galleries, hosted dialogues and repertoire of the reflections and discussions. The peace caravan toured seven towns – Eldoret, Kericho, Nakuru, Naivasha, Mombasa, Nyeri and Kisumu – that were the hardest hit by the spate of the Post Election Violence. n.

Working with District Peace Commitees and up to 200 community youth groups including 40 volunteers per town, Picha Mtaani facilitated space for reflection through emotive street picture exhibitions that hopefully inspired dialogue and truth telling amongst the youth in rural and urban settlements. George Gachara, the Project Coordinator of Picha Mtaani, said that these are the silent victims who are at the tail end of on-going peace initiatives in the country, and were mostly the executers of the violence.
