On an unnamed part of the internet, young adult author Gwen C. Katz found a delightfully deluded male author claiming that his facility with writing natural women characters constituted an unassailable rebuke to the idea that we need diverse authors to write diverse viewpoints. If a male author can write a woman this convincing, surely there’s no need for the #OwnVoices movement!
Suey Park (@suey_park) is the 23-year-old freelance writer and organizer behind the hashtag #NotYourAsianSidekick, which quickly became a trending topic on Twitter Monday with thousands of Asian American women and others from around the world adding their 140 characters to the conversation on Asian American feminism.
On January 21, 2014, McDonald’s asked its customers to tweet supportive messages to the Olympians who would compete in the Sochi Games, along with the hashtag #CheersToSochi. However, within a couple of days, LGBT activists essentially hijacked the hasthtag from McDonalds.
