The project consists of an online tool that helps protestors negatively impact the price of a publicly traded stock by using the same sentiment analysis tools used by many stock trading algorithms. In the contemporary stock markets, high-frequency trading bots that continuously buy and sell stocks have replaced human market makers. These bots provide the market with liquidity by being ready to take the buy or sell end of a stock trade most of the time.

Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei has recreated the image of drowned infant Alan Kurdi that in 2015 became the defining symbol of the plight of Syria’s refugees. For the recreation, Ai lay on a pebbled beach on the Greek island of Lesbos. His pose was similar to that of Kurdi’s lifeless body, which washed up on a beach near the Turkish town of Bodrum and was captured in a September 2015 photo.

Google entered the art game in 2011 with the introduction of its Art Project, working with 17 museums and expanding further to over 150 institutions in 2012. Voina art collective members covertly brought a large laser projector into the attic room of a hotel located across the street from the Russian White house (also called the Russian Parliament Building). From there they projected a large image of a skull and bross bones across the front of the white house building. Other group members on the ground then stormed the building gates and successfully entered the secure zone in front of the building.

On the Internet people only look at pictures of kittens. British street artist Banksy has posted pictures and video of works made during a trip to the war-torn Gaza Strip. One shows a figure reminiscent of Rodin’s “The Thinker” — though, set in a still-standing doorway surrounded by nothing but rubble, the figure seems more distraught than contemplative.

The political artist I chose to investigate is Ruth Peche, a Spanish sculptor and photographer. Her themes tend to center around plastic waste and the impact it has on the environment, using this as a muse for describing the relationship human society has with the natural world. Peche’s interest in art activism, particularly with themes of preserving the environment, is something that was sparked for her in during her childhood years.
