The current cultural and political context in Macedonia marginalizes lesbians and women in general, and the dominant political party forces the traditional role of the woman, where she is a mother, a housewife, and of course, heterosexual. Furthermore, the major TV stations are flooded with Turkish soap operas, where traditional values are the leitmotif of the show.

The group of artists — who collectively call themselves "The Illuminator" and are not related to the trio behind the original sculpture — used laptops and projection equipment to cast an image of Snowden in a haze of smoke at the spot where the sculpture once stood.

Artist Bryan Lewis Saunders took it upon himself to draw a self portrait every time he took a psychoactive substance. These ranged from zoloft to morphine to marijuana and it is an amazing subjective experience to witness. We can almost get a taste of what each drug must feel like on the inside, at least to Saunders, and an experiment like this raises some important questions like what are drugs and what place do they have in society?
