Children in marginalized communities often lack access to healthy foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables. Poor nutrition, in turn, has significant negative impacts on a child’s health and ability to focus in school. Learning and academic achievement often plummet.

What is it like living with AIDS? This heart-wrenching video for South Africa’s Topsy Foundation brings us through 90 hard days in the life of someone living with it. Sam Durant is an LA based artist who engages in social, cultural and political issues through his interactive public sculptures. Durant is interested in investigating historical narratives and their contemporary communities. From 2005-2010 Durant was part of the collective Transforma Projects, a grassroots cultural rebuilding initiative in New Orleans. One of his most recent interactive public sculptures Scaffold is on view at the Hague.

The "Democracy Wall" in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn, New York was established in 2009. This wall is a long-term, community art activist project that is part wall mural, part past information archive.

This has been a racially-charged year. How one challenges the status quo is an individual choice and many opt for artistic expression. Artistic expression can personified most visually on the body and while black pride tees are big, nail art is just as big and just as communicative.

Brainstorm of ideas and collection of the group individual experiences and input. Preparation and design of the action. Interview of a member of local organization that is working with homeless. Research of data,concrete stories. Build up the scenario to establish the environment to raise awareness of the rising local issue of homeless, specifically female homeless and their challenges in daily life.
