"The Last American Indian on Earth", a performance art piece by Gregg Deal,a member of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe originally based in northwestern Nevada.The project documents what happens when an unsuspecting public is confronted with the flesh-and-blood version of a stereotype, one that for most is the only authentic expression of what it means to be an Indigenous person of the American continent.

An Israeli member of the Taiji Dolphin Action Group, with a red body painting to evoke blood, is curled up on a sheet depicting the Japanese flag, during a January 30, 2014 protest against the killing of dolphins, notably in the Japanese city of Taiji, held outside the building housing the Japanese Embassy, Tel Aviv. Similar rallies outside Japanese consulates and embassies were expected to take place worldwide.

A troupe of approximately thirty women and men of various ages, sizes, ethnicities and performance backgrounds marched through the performance art space of SESC-Vila Mariana in Sao Paulo and then through the streets of downtown Sao Paulo, silent, blind folded, dressed in business attire, and covered completely with a gray mud. The performances walked slowly in unison at turtle's pace.

Cheril Linett is a female artist from Chile, with a background in performance art and stage performance, who primarily focuses her artwork on feminist issues in Chile, especially ones involving violence, murder, hate crime and different kinds of oppression and assault, but also creates artwork reflecting issues in other parts of Latin America.

Marian Anderson, the legendary African American contralto, sang at the Lincoln Memorial on Easter Sunday in 1939 after she was refused a performance at Washington’s Constitution Hall by the Daughters of the American Revolution because she was black. Over 75,000 people attended the performance, which was broadcast live on the radio and arranged in part by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt with the support of her husband, President Franklin D.

Artist and disability rights activist Liz Crow has produced another iteration of her long-standing performance project, “Bedding Out.” In an attempt to bridge the divide between her private and public lives, she invited the world to witness the way she exists in the privacy of her own bed. Staged at the Salisbury Arts Centre just outside of London, visitors could watch Crow as she lives in an installed bedroom for 48 hours straight.

... is this for protest? Perhaps. As is described online, it mentions that there was an attempt taken to challenge power relations, specifically between men and women; however, what I find most fascinating about this 'action' is that it 'demonstrates' the discrepancy between the female body as depicted in the painting, The Origin of the World, and the physically present form of Deborah's own body, i.e. genitalia.

This performative art took place at a series called SUBLIME at the Brooklyn Museum, curated by the collective SAWCC (pronounced saucy)- South Asian Women's Creative Collective.
